Sonnenberg offers wedding ceremonies of varying sizes to accommodate as few as a dozen guests up to several hundred to witness you taking your vows. Use of the bridal salon is included with any wedding ceremony.
All couples are welcome to choose our primary ceremony site with its formal, traditional ambience for wedding ceremonies of any size. When planning a small ceremony, for 40 guests or fewer, some of our outlying gardens may be used as an alternate location in which to create an intimate, cozy feel.
Large wedding ceremonies, accommodating 50 – 250+ guests, can be located at either the primary Pergola site for a ceremony with a traditional, formal style, or the Beech Tree Plateau site, where a simple grass plateau, with a large, red-leaf Copper Beech Tree stands behind and other trees grace the sides creating a natural “stage” with impressive views for up to 400 guests.
Guests are encouraged to park in our main lot approximately 30 minutes before your ceremony. This allows a comfortable amount of time to be greeted at our designated wedding check-in area, then board our multi-passenger trams for the short ride to the site, which is about a 10-minute walk in dress shoes.
Booking Your Date and Time:
Check availability of your preferred date on our online calendar, then contact our Program Manager to tour the estate, or book. Please note tentative booking requests can only be held for 5 business days (one week) without your signed contract and half-down, non-refundable deposit. Should you postpone your ceremony and reception to a different day or year after booking, your deposit will transfer to the new date with payment of a $75 administrative fee for re-booking. If less than two weeks have passed since your original booking, the re-booking fee will be waived.
As a public garden, there is no guarantee of privacy during the day for wedding clients as our buildings and gardens are open for tours during normal business hours. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted unless served by Sonnenberg’s Finger Lakes Wine Center staff or a licensed caterer. Even so, any alcohol must remain in the designated serving area and cannot be taken into the gardens. Smoking within 50 feet of any structure is prohibited by New York State law. As an historic site with irreplaceable works of architecture and floral design, we ask all clients and their guests treat it with respect. Sonnenberg reserves the right to ask disruptive individuals to leave the property. A client will be liable for any damage to Sonnenberg property caused by that client, his/her agents/associates, or guests.
