A New Chapter of Renewal
Thanks to generous donations from individuals like you, our treasured Victorian mansion, distinctive historic structures, and beautiful gardens have been steadily restored and enhanced for all to enjoy. Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park was born out of the love of the first owners, Frederick and Mary Clark Thompson, over a century ago. We first became a public park in 1973 and in 2005 we opened a new chapter of renewal.
Since 2005 we have made major improvements and restorations in these areas:
- Sub-Rosa Garden
- Blue & White Garden
- Rose Garden
- Old Fashioned Garden Pergola
- Japanese Tea House
- Mansion veranda
- New kitchen garden
Years of planning by our dedicated board and staff were needed to turn these “projects” into reality – which you now enjoy today. We are proud to add two more recently completed projects to that list:
- Restoration of the greenhouse complex’s 1903 central Conservatory and Dome
- Restoration of the Aviary with adjoining outdoor patio and tent pavilion for use with events and celebrations.
With Immense Gratitude
With immense gratitude for past support, we hope that you will help us continue to prosper. Our dream is to become the gateway to the Canandaigua region, the premier Finger Lakes tourism destination, and one of our nation’s most extensively preserved estates.
