Whether it's attending one of Sonnenberg's special events, like the Annual Saturday Mothers' Tea or planning a private event of your own to host on the grounds, there's a multitude of things to do! Host a wine-and-cheese party after-hours in our Finger Lakes Wine Center Tasting Room or come to one of our wine-themed seasonal events, such as Roses & Rosés. Make reservations for May or August teas at our Mansion, book a training seminar or class in our Carriage House, or celebrate career achievements with members of your company at a business reception. In addition, we are now offering private rental options in the off-season at select site locations, and there are seasonal special events that enable you to enjoy Sonnenberg year-round. January 21: Frederick Ferris Thompson’s Diaries: The Interpretation of a Primary Source, 7 pm, Hear a panel of speakers from Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion's History Committee discuss the life of Frederick Ferris Thompson in this special presentation hosted by Perinton Historical Society at the Fairport Public Library. Registration is required, and begins online at www.fairportlibrary.org on December 24, 2013 or by calling the Fairport Library at 585-223-9091. January 25: Mulching: When Good Gets Bad, 10:30 am - Noon, $10/person. This presentation examines the advantages of proper mulching and summarizing the age-old problems resulting from mulch piled too deeply around trees. This presentation is designed to illustrate to both homeowners and to practitioners the best management practices of mulching used by arborists. If time allows, issues to be aware of when planting trees will also be discussed. Presented by Finger Lakes Community College’s Berna Ticonchuk. Part of the Winter Education Series. (Rescheduled to April 26 as part of "Hug a Tree" Event)
Febuary 3: Lingering Melodies: Stories Behind the Great American Songbook, 7 pm. Free event. Join us for an evening with Michael Lasser and to learn the stories behind some of America’s most loved songs. Book signing to follow lecture. Held at the Wood Library, 134 N. Main Street, Canandaigua, NY. Sponsored by Sonnenberg, the Wood Library, and the Ontario County Historical Museum.
March 1: Love of Orchids, 10 am - 3 pm, $20/person. Orchids are the largest family of flowering plants. They are found on every continent except Antarctica and in almost every kind of habitat. Join Bloomfield Orchid’s Joe Kunisch to learn about these amazing plants and what you need to do to give them optimal care. Part of the Winter Education Series. Prepaid reservations required.
March 7 - 9: Annual Orchid Show, 10 am - 5 pm, $5/person. Shake off those winter blues by stepping into a green and growing world filled with exotic blooms at Sonnenberg’s Annual Orchid Show. On display, guests will find colorful Cattleyas and Cymbidiums, delicate Dendrobiums, pretty Phalaenopsis, and more. Attend educational seminars and shop for orchids and gifts.
Every Tuesday (9 am - Noon) & every Wednesday (Noon - 3 pm) in April: Greenhouse Open House, While our gardens sleep through the winter, our gardeners do not! Late winter is a very busy time in the greenhouses. Tens of thousands of seeds are started for planting throughout our many gardens. During the month of April we will open our greenhouses to the public. Come and see the seeds being started. Wander through the tropical Orchid House and Palm House. Marvel at the cactus, agave, and other desert plants that grow in arid conditions. A greenhouse visit will be a great way to fight the late winter blues and inspire dreams of spring! $1 donation/person.
April 26: Hug a Tree, 10 am - 3 pm. This special day-long tree event will feature talks, walks, and more. $20/person.
May 1: Sonnenberg opens for the 2014 season.
May 3: Sonnenberg Spring 5K Run/Stroll, 9 a.m., $20 Pre-registration Fee, $25 Day of Race fee. Please join us for a beautiful race or walk, if you wish, around the Sonnenberg Gardens and Canandaigua VA Hospital grounds. The spring flowers and flowering trees will be putting on a wonderful show for all registrants. All race proceeds will go to support the day-to-day operational expenses at Sonnenberg Gardens.

May 10: Saturday Mother’s Tea, 1 - 4 pm. We welcome you to an elegant, high tea for ages 4 – 104. You will be served fruit cup, scones, tea sandwiches, breads, shrub, assorted sweets and teas, while being entertained with music from Mary Thompson’s own piano. Please join us for a relaxing, enjoyable afternoon at the mansion. Prepaid reservations required. $30/adults, $25/Sonnenberg Members, $18/Youth (4-12)

June 5-8: Finger Lakes Plein Air Competition & Festival
June 9: Roses & Rosés, 6 – 9 pm, This elegant wine and food pairing event showcases over thirty wineries and restaurants of the Finger Lakes Region and kicks off Rose Week at Sonnenberg. Guests are invited to stroll through the historic Mansion, Belvedere, and Rose Garden where over 2,500 roses are in bloom during the garden’s peak. There will also be live music and a silent auction held in the Great Hall of the Mansion. $30/person; $55/Couple. Prepaid reservations required.
June 15: Father’s Day Car Cruise, 12 – 4 pm, Fun for the whole family! Enjoy an afternoon of classic cars and motorcycles, music, food, and more. Sign up to showcase your wheels. $12 per person, $10 AAA members /60+, $6 pp for ages 13-17, College Students, or Military personnel w/Military ID, $1.00 pp for ages 4 -12. Free for ages 3 and under.
July 4, 11, 18, 25, & August 1: Moonlight Strolls, 8 – 10 pm, Come see your favorite gardens aglow with lights, and stroll the grounds on a balmy summer's eve - the ONLY time all year that the beauty of Sonnenberg is showcased at night! Performers will be located on the mansion veranda. Bring your folding lawnchairs and picnic blankets or choose from among some of the (limited) seats Sonnenberg provides. All concerts are held rain or shine! Snack on light refreshments sold by the Friends of Sonnenberg or sip delicious wines by the glass sold by our Finger Lakes Wine Center. $9/person, $7/Sonnenberg Member; $4 youth 6-17, FREE for ages 5 and under

July 28: Annual Sonnenberg Golf Tournament, 10 am, Our Golf Tournament to be open to women’s teams and will be held at Winged Pheasant Golf Course. There will be no mixed teams and is limited to 18 foursomes. The day will start with a mimosa toast followed by a 4-person, 9-hole scramble. Prizes will be awarded for lowest and highest scores, and the longest and shortest drives. Following golf, lunch will be served on the Sonnenberg Mansion Veranda. July 28 – August 1: Historic Adventure Day Camp, Children's program.

August 16 & 17: Arts at the Gardens, 10 am – 5 pm, Juried Fine Art & Fine Craft Show & Sale Featuring 100 Top-Quality Artists from across the U.S. Rain or Shine, Free Art Lectures, Wine/Beer Garden featuring Microbrews, Food Court, Enter to Win Artwork from the Exhibiting Artists at the Raffle Tent. October 11: Fall Symposium, Join us for a day of exciting garden speakers. Keynote speaker Vincent Simone. Lunch included. Prepaid reservations required. $85/person, $75/members.
October 17, 18, 24 & 25: Mansion Mysteries, 7 – 9 pm, Come take part in a "whodunit" at Sonnenberg! Guests will have a chance to take part in this live-theater event by uncovering the clues that will solve the mystery and bring the guilty party -or parties- to justice! Light refreshments along with a cash wine bar will be provided. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available. Guests are welcome to further participate in the fun, if they so desire, by attending in costume. Prepaid reservations required. $24/General; $20/Sonnenberg Members and Youths (Ages 12 - 18)
October 26: Haunted Garden Stroll, 6-10 pm, Join us -- if you dare! -- for a "haunted" stroll through the Sonnenberg grounds. Hear strange Sonnenberg tales from the last 126 years that will leave you in goosebumps! Be ready for spooky characters during the walk - you never know who or what might be lurking or watching! Will it be an apparition of a Civil War general who died in the mansion? Or perhaps the Lady in Black who continues to walk the grounds? What other macabre visitations or weird sights will you experience?? $5/person, under 5 FREE.
October 31: Sonnenberg closes for the season
December 6: Holiday Home Tour, See the beautiful and historic home of Canandaigua decorated for the holiday season. $22/person.
