Restoring Our Legacy, Building Our Future

For more than a decade, progress has continued because of support from individuals and funders like you.

Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion’s restoration has steadily continued and now we are in the process of expanding and upgrading our site to enhance our visitors’ experience. The future of Sonnenberg is bright and we are grateful for you and the community that has made us the number one tourist attraction in Ontario County.

The New Visitor Gateway Matching Campaign

Sonnenberg Gardens is in the quiet stages of a Capital Campaign for Phase One of our facility expansion. We have been awarded a matching grant of $500,000 from the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation’s Environmental Protection Fund Grant Program and have raised $52,000 towards the $250,000 Sonnenberg match. Your Annual Fund Gift will assist us with the match to develop the new Sonnenberg Visitor Gateway.

With the acquisition of 3.5 acres from the former armory site and the adjacent 1.2 acres on Gibson Street, we will create a more accessible entrance to the park, upgraded visitor and bus tour parking, and prepare for Phase Two—the additional land reintegrates the Southwest Corner of the original Thompson Estate. Former Armory buildings will be repurposed to long, needed functional office space, storage for property equipment, and historic collections.

The Phase Two Development of our Gateway Campaign will create a Visitor Welcome and Education Center with opportunities for education and event space to grow and expand our mission including having the Center open ten months of the year.
